Skincare Roundup!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that this Christmas I am running a beauty advent calendar on my story with lots of tips and tricks! Here I will be rounding them up into categories for you to look back on or just incase you missed out ūüôā

So our first round up is skincare – something I am really passionate about. I see a lot of women spending out on make up products and wondering why they aren’t looking flawless. The better your skin the better your make up will sit on top of it – simple!

– The chemicals in wipes are designed to quickly disintegrate make up and those chemicals are left on your skin therefore eating away until you next wash your face.

– They contain alcohol which can dry out your skin.

– All in all they do not effectively clean your face!

– If you find it hard to break away from the ease of wipes try Micellar Water.

– The micellar molecules act as a magnet picking up dirt and oil from the skin.

– Micellar Water is mild, non irritating and safe even on the most sensitive of skin.

Garnier Micellar Water is a great budget Micellar Water which you can pick up almost anywhere!

Bioderma the original Micellar Water and still the reining champion!

– If you are able to spend a little more time on your skincare it will go along way! Let me introduce double cleansing.

– Your first cleanse should remove your make up and the second clean your skin.

– The first cleanse should be an oil, balm or clay. Something that will break down the make up and oils on your skin.

– The second should be a gel or lotion that is best for your skin type.

MAC Cleanse off oil has been a favourite of mine for many years!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil another great cleansing oil infused with goodness!

Origins Zero Oil Deep Pore Cleanser perfect 2nd cleanse for anyone with oily or acne prone skin.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser best 2nd cleanse for anyone super dry or sensitive.

Liz Earl Cleanse & Polish great all rounder for normal or combination skin.

–¬†Acids dissolve the ‘glue’ that holds skin cells together allowing them to detach. Once the upper, most damaged layer is removed your skin will look brighter, smoother and more even. Pores are unclogged, dark spots are reduced & wrinkles appear smaller!

– SALICYLIC ACID: If you count acne, blackheads and large pores amount your skin concerns, add salicylic acid to your routine. Because of its large molecular size stays on the surface of the skin longer giving it fantastic pore cleaning abilities.

–¬†GYCOLIC ACID: The holy grail for exfoliation! Being the smallest molecule it penetrates deeper and effectively removes the outermost layer of the dead cells from your skin, revealing brighter, fresher skin. Gycolic assisting with boosting collagen production which is brilliant for plumping up the skin and reducing fine lines.

–¬†LACTIC ACID: Has the same great benefits of Gycolic Acid but it is much more comfortable for dry skin or someone seeking its extra softening benefits. It can be successful for sensitive skin whereas the previous acids can cause slight irritation.

– All acids are completely safe (unlike how they sound) however you may feel a slight tingling sensation when you introduce them into your skincare.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% a great serum to use on problem areas after cleansing.

Cult product, Pixi Glow Tonic enriched with 5% glycolic acid, just apply a few drops to a cotton wool pad, and sweep all over skin after cleansing (morning and evening)

The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + Hyaluronic Acid 2% team with the later makes it super moisturising!

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme a great all rounder including all 3 acids for super skin!

–¬†Serums are the thinest and should be applied first. Then moisturiser. Then oil.

–¬†Serums should target your skin concern shout it be ageing, acne, dehydration or dullness. If you have no skin concern you probably do not need a serum

– Moisturiser not only boosts hydration but being a bigger molecule it creates a protective layer of moisture that lasts all day.

– Look out for ingredients like Squalane, Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramides & Glycerin.

– Oils are super nourishing for dry and ageing skin. Unless you are super dry I would use these at night only.

– Let your moisturiser / oils fully sink in before applying make up as this will dilute your make up products.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturiser a great moisturiser for all skin types!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate I love this as a combo with their moisturiser at night.

Embryolisse Lait-creme Concentre a make up artist favourite moisturiser for dry skin under make up.

Oily skin needs moisture too! Try this Neutrogena Moisturiser.

I hope this has been helpful for anyone looking to update their skincare or prep their skin for their wedding or big event! Remember to share with your friends!

Summer Bridal Make Up

This July¬†I had the pleasure of doing¬†Katie and her bridal party’s¬†make up for her wedding at All Saint’s Church, Chelmsford / Vaulty Manor, Heybridge, Essex.
Bridal Make Up Essex

Katie’s bridal party included 6 bridesmaids and Mother of the Bride¬†to get ready for her 1pm church ceremony which was conveniently a few steps away from her parents house. It was there that we spent the morning of this hot summers day getting everybody ready to the sound of church bell’s¬†rehearsing.

Katie opted for a summery smokey eye for her bridal make up look. We used nude & shades of purple, particularly Naked Pigment from MAC which has a gorgeously subtle shimmer and unexpected from Make Up Geek Cosmetics to enhance her gleaming blue eyes. This conveniently went alongside her colour theme of neutral lilacs and dusty pinks. We finished off the eye look with a pair of delicate lashes and a bridal favourite of mine РArdell Demi Wispies.
On her skin we used Marc Jacobs ReMarcable foundation which provides a flawless finish with its full coverage yet light texture. We then added some bridal glow with pinky cheeks using Make Up Geek Spell Bound and highlighted her features using Becca Cosmetics Champagne Pop!

I finished off Katie’s look with Boldly Bare lipliner by MAC and a swipe of NYX Butter gloss in Creme Brulee which Katie also purchased to keep her lips looking fresh through the day!

Wedding Morning Hair & Make Up Preparation

Behind The Scene Wedding Morning

Check out this behind the scenes video where you can see me getting to work with bride Kerrie’s hair and make up!

When you think of your wedding morning you want it to be enjoyable, memorable and as stress free as possible! You can rest assured that by booking me, everything will be under control and run smoothly on the day itself.

Most brides prefer to go for a flawless make up look that still looks like them. It is probably not the best time to try out a new dramatic look. It is important to create a look that is timeless, feminine and will not date. Once applied, your wedding day makeup should last a full 12 hours with the use of various primers and techniques.

You should be advised on the products you will need on the day for touch-ups such as a blotting powder, hairspray and/or your lip stick/gloss colour!

Quite often on larger with larger wedding parties I provide a team of people to get the job done as you can see above.

How To Get Textured Beach Hair

How To Get Textured Beach Hair

Photos by Natasha Worby for MSR

Why is it that the ‘undone’ look is always takes the longest?¬†Here are a few simple steps to get your beach waves rocking!

You ideally want to style this look on dirty hair Рif you have just washed it be sure to get some product in the hair like Bumble & Bumble Texture Creme give is a blast with the hair dryer, lifting at the roots with your hand or dry with your head upside down!

Bumble & Bumble Texture Creme

Once dry section your hair. ¬†Using a curling iron or wand, curl roughly 2″ thick pieces of hair. You want to alternate your curls in different directions e.g one towards your face & one away (this keeps the texture looking full) & leave the ends of your hair out of the iron – spray with hairspray as you go.

You can make your beach hair as curly or straight as you like by choosing difference thickness of curling tool, the thicker the tool the looser your curls will be!

Once you have finished your curls leave the hair to cool for 5 minutes before running your fingers through to separate the hair. You’ll then want to spray over with a salt spray like Got2b Beach Matte¬†Salt Spray and give a blast of cold air from your hairdryer.

Got2B Beach Matt

Finally to finish the hair and give it extra texture. I like to get a penny size lump of the Got2B beach matt paste¬†and run it through the lengths and ends of the hair, ‘scrunching’ the curls as you go…

and the result – beach hair like you just road the surf in bondi beach – Enjoy!

Peach and Bronze Make Up Look

Here is a round of of make up products I use to create this look!

Make Up By Sian - Peach & Bronze Smokey Eye

For my base I started with NARS Cosmetics sheer glow foundation,¬†I applied this using the Definer Sponge¬†from¬†Barely Cosmetics. I love this technique of applying foundation! By tapping the product into the skin with the sponge the coverage builds up quickly¬†yet takes away any excess product resulting in flawless, non ‘cakey’ skin! I then used the same sponge to apply¬†Ben Nye ‘Fair translucent setting powder’ and allowed to bake whilst I come to my eye make up.

Barely Cosmetics Sponge

For my eyes I used Makeup Geek eyeshadows.¬†‘Peach smoothie’ swooped over the entire lid and crease area as my transition colour, I then used Cosmopolitan on the movable lid which gives a gorgeous Champagne coloured glow. To deepen the crease area I used the warm brown shade by the name of ‘Cocoabear’ & ‘Corrupt’ (which may I say is the blackest of all black eyeshadows I have ever used) went in the outer corner to make this look darker and more smokey! I also took ‘Cocoabear’ and ‘Corrupt’ under the eye with ‘Feline’ kohl pencil from MAC in the water line. To finish the eye look I took¬†INGLOT black gel liner No.77 for the liner and MAC’s In Extreme Dimension mascara on the lashes.

As always, Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in medium brown was used to sculpt out and fill in my brows.

I then buffed over my faced with a Morphe Duo Fibre brush to get rid of the excess powder from ‘baking’ my foundation before picking up Makeup Geek’s ‘Infatuation‘ powder to contour, this isn’t really a typical contour colour but I wanted the overall finish to be quite bronzed so I also added ‘Romance‘¬†a sparkling peach shade as my¬†blusher/highlight.

MakeUp Geek Cosmetics Infatuation Romance

MAC Cosmetics lip liner ‘Boldly Bare’¬†went all over the lip with a touch of¬†‘Luxe Naturale’ mineralise lipstick in the centre to give some shine!

I hope you liked this look, please let me know what you think!

Why hire a professional to do my wedding hair and make up?

Here are just some of the benefits of having a professional make up artist like myself to do your wedding hair & make up on your big day!

 Professional Make Up Kit

1) You have got your perfect dress, jewellery and shoes… don’t leave yourself out. There is nothing worse than panicking that your wedding hair and make up hasn’t gone as you would have hoped before you walk down the aisle. Let a professional take care of that.
2) Your hair & make up will need to last throughout the entire day and evening. Only professional quality products combined with the correct skills and tools will achieve this.
3) When you look back through your wedding photos in years to come, you want to remember how gorgeous you looked and felt on the day. Professional, high definition products will allow you to look flawless on camera as well as in front your your congregation.
4) Consider paying for your bridesmaids wedding hair and make up (or a portion of) as a gift. Your photos and video will look 100 times better if all of the girls have professional beauty services, rather than those bridal parties where some girls have professional applications and some do their own, this is something which is highly noticeable in a photo.
5) An experienced team will do the work of planning a wedding hair and make up schedule to have you and your bridal party ready on time. The order of hair and makeup appointments will be organised to allow the bride to relax and have the people she needs to help her with certain things, like getting in the dress, at the right times = less stress on the day.

6) Professional wedding hair and make up is actually one of the most affordable services you can book for your wedding. Lets me honest, most people won’t spend much time looking at your place cards, but they will be looking at you, the bride, in person and in your photos… Don’t shortchange yourself on your special day.

My Top 5 Favourite Makeup Products

Here are my top 5 go to makeup products as a makeup artist and in my personal makeup bag – Enjoy!

1) MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation
I have loved this foundation since I bought my very first bottle, years before I became a make up artist! I continue to add various foundations to my collection but I personally always come back to the Studio Fix Fluid Foundation. I suffer from oily skin and this foundation keeps my skin from becoming like a disco ball through the day. I apply thinly with a stippling brush for a natural looking flawless base before any make up look I’m going for!

2) MAC ‘Feline’ Kohl Pencil
Now working for MAC during my career my top 5 may be a little MAC biased but trust me when I say, if you like kohl liners you will fall in love with this one! Feline is the blackest of black with a super easy glide. Perfect for quick smokey eye!

3) Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate
Right at the beginning of my career, a make up artist I was assisting had this in her kit, the gorgeous packaging first caught my eye and then I witnessed something special – the power of a contour and highlight! This comes in two shades however I only carry the one in my kit and add more to deepen the contour. The highlighter is also good for all skin shades and leaves a realistic dewy texture to the skin. Love!

4) MAC ‘Kinda Sexy’ Lipstick
I am a fan of a lot of MAC’s lipsticks but this has to be my most used shade. It is a gorgeous peachy pink colour, matt in texture but not so that it looks dry on the lips. Beautiful on its own or teamed with a touch of gloss. This is my go to for the perfect nude lipstick.

5) Anastasia Beverley Hills Dipbrow Pomade
Anyone who knows me or my make up will know I love a brow! This is a great product to achieve a fluffy and natural brow to a strong defined shape. Comes in lots of shades to suit all hair/skin types, I especially recommend the lighter shades for blondes who are wondering how they will ever find the perfect brow product!
